What is Porcelain veneers?
Veneers are made out of very thin layer of porcelain that is constructed in dental laboratory. The purpose of veneer is to bring back the natural beauty of your teeth, rejuvenate and restore you smile. Veneers are an alternative to porcelain crowns and in many cases it is a conservative approach to restorative dentistry. Imagine contact lenses that go over your eyes to help you restore your vision. They are very thin. Now Veneers are the same way. As it was said before, they are very thin layer of porcelain that goes over your teeth. Teeth that are worn out, stained permanently (tetracycline stains), chipped, or miss aligned can benefit from veneers. (See before and after pictures in our “Smile Gallery” section)
THE BENEFITS OF VENEERS
Unlike natural teeth that are not resistant to coffee and tea stains, porcelain veneers are completely resistant to discoloration because they are made out of dense porcelain. Veneers are very conservative approach to restoring your smile. Your teeth are minimally reshaped to allow veneers go over them. For many individuals that they have gap between their teeth, in most cases teeth are not reshaped for veneers.
MAINTENANCE OF A PORCELAIN VENEER
Just like how you keep you teeth clean by brushing and flossing between you teeth, veneers also need to be flossed in between. However, the major difference between veneer and natural teeth is the color durability. Veneers do not change color so maintaining them is very simple and easy. Professional cleaning based on your dentist recommendation is recommended for the longevity of your teeth and veneers.
